The 165th Boat Race

Posted on Thu, 11 Apr, 2019

The 165th Boat Race gave comprehensive victories for Cambridge in the Men’s and Women’s races.  At the same, FRBC had a terrific presence on the day thanks to our ongoing association with The Boat Race via the Future Blues Project.

The morning kicked off with CEO, Steve O’Connor, and one of the junior members, Christian, making an appearance on BBC Radio 2 to talk about the charities achievements on the water.  Two more students representing Kensington Aldridge Academy and Sacred Heart High School then kicked off the official proceedings of the day by completing the Coin Toss for the crews to pick the all important stations.  Finally, Steve made the dash across to Mortlake to award the trophy to the winning Women’s Crew from Cambridge.

The absolute highlight of the day was having 150 guests from the FRBC schools and membership attend the club to watch the races.  It was great to bring the community together and have speeches delivered from former Boat Race winners, Ollie Cook and Emma Spruce, who painted a brilliant picture of what it takes to win one of the hardest events in rowing!
