WeHORR Race Report

Posted on Wed, 12 Mar, 2025

Last Saturday, two of our fantastic crews took to the Thames for the Women’s Eights Head of the River Race—on International Women’s Day, no less! It was a brilliant day, and we couldn’t be prouder of everyone who took part, from the rowers to our dedicated Coaching team and all the supporters cheering from the banks.

Please join us in celebrating our Women's Crew and Junior Women's Crews!

Coach Nick had this to say about the JW Crew’s race:

"The JW had a solid first WEHORR, moving up around 20 places and beating a few other JW crews, boating with a mixed crew of j15,16,17s and 18s!"

Womens rower Farah shared their experience racing in the Women's crew:

“Racing WeHORR is arguably the most challenging head race for an eight on the Tideway. It also gets notoriously grey and cold at that time of year, especially in the last couple of years, but the weather and rowing gods blessed us with sunshine and 16°C weather.  Sustaining a rate of at least 28 s/m over 7k is definitely no easy feat but with the adrenaline and grit in our boat, we kept our rate to at least 29 s/m and sustained our splits throughout until we fully emptied the tank at the line of moored boats in Putney. The cheers of our friends and family when we reached our club pontoon gave us that second wind we needed to overtake not 1 but 2 eights! On behalf of our mighty eight, thank you to everyone who came along to cheer us on. We had a great race under a lukewarm March sunshine.”

FRBC also hosted 4 Leander Women's crews and 2 Marlow RC Junior Crews, so thank you for making them feel welcome!

A special thank you to Coach Andrew and members Penny and Conny for capturing the day so beautifully in photos and videos.

Well done, everyone!
