Vogalonga Trip Report

Posted on Thu, 23 May, 2024

Last weekend, fifteen brave FRBC rowers flew out to Venice to take part in the 48th 'La Vogalonga'. It's a spectacular rowing festival involving over 2,000 various boats that row their way around a 35k course, often stuck in horrendous log jams as hundreds of boats squeeze into the narrow canal entrances.

We hired three Quads with coxes rotating, all ablaze in our wonderful FRBC Tour shirts, plus a couple of loyal FRBC friends cheering us on from various canal side bars.

It was a phenomenal event, and it was fantastic to experience it with such an outstanding group of FRBC friends. If you think a 250-entry Thames Headrace is busy, imagine coxing alongside 2,000 other crews packed in together!!

However, the icing on the cake was James and Federico’s amazing support and organisation. They handled all the weekend’s arrangements like professional tour organisers, and Federico and Paul’s Italian allowed us to blend in with the locals!!

It was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend, which reminded us yet again of those special moments, joys, and memories when we tour, row, and party together with FRBC friends." Bryan Brown on his experience rowing at Vogalonga 2024.

“Huge thank you to the club and coaches. Just had the most wonderful experience rowing with a great bunch of people and it wouldn’t have been possible without the club or the huge amount of work the coaches have put in to give each of us the ability to think, ‘I can do that.’ Thanks to all, past and present.” James Lester

It looks like a lot of fun in beautiful Venice! Huge congratulations to all the crews for taking on this challenge and representing FRBC on tour!
