Henley Town & Visitors Regatta Race Report
Henley Town & Visitors Regatta saw FRBC's largest regatta entry with 18 FRBC crews taking part.
Following a fully loaded trailer and lots of great preperation our adult squads had an amazing day out racing. We want to congratulate everyone who took part, which also included a spectacular win by our womens quad. Given there was so much racing to choose from we wanted to share the experience of one of our rowers who took the plunge and raced the single for the first time.
HENLEY UPDATE FROM EMMA
Racing a single is great - everything that goes well is down to you and everything that doesn't is your fault!
I was up against a sculler from Abingdon RC in the very first race of the day. I swung on to the stake boat and lined up confidently enough, then realised I'd forgotten the stroke coach...
Attention. Go! Half, half, start to lengthen, build. it was almost fun!
I was drawn on the Bucks side of the course and never once looked over my right shoulder and only glanced left a few times, instead steering off the line buoys - the commenter said I was 'flirting' but I think I was just being polite.
Although my opponent ended up pulling away, I was delighted that I'd matched her stroke rate and pace for most of the race. I heard some very loud cheering from the sizable FRBC contingent. Big thanks to Kate T for persuading me to do it and for my would-be pair buddy, Caitlin for coming all the way to support. However, I'd have been up a creek without a paddle if it weren't for Deryn - let's plan for 2026!
