Accessibility Lead Coach
Location: Fulham Reach Boat Club, London
Salary: £15,000 – £20,000 (part-time, depending on experience)
Commitment: Part-time / 0.5FTE (hours negotiable, including some evenings/weekends)
Reports to: Chief of Community Development
Contract: Fixed term for three years till end of Feb 2029 (length of the grant funding)
Start Date: Negotiable (end of February 2026 preferred)

About Fulham Reach Boat Club (FRBC)
FRBC is an award-winning charity with a mission of ‘Sport for Good’. We open up access to sport for underrepresented groups, using physical activity to build skills, confidence, and community.
Over the past two years FRBC have piloted accessible rowing (what is also known as adaptive or para rowing). Last year we ran a summer programme of accessible rowing called Row the Rhythm for people who are blind and visually impaired, which was a great success demonstrating high level of impact on people lives as well as showing there was significant demand for accessible rowing opportunities in London.
We are equally committed to environmental stewardship, with initiatives such as:
River clean-ups: removing over 1,000kg of waste from the tidal Thames in the past year
Water quality testing: supporting education on pollution and climate change with several years of open data
Transitioning to electric safety boats: reducing carbon footprint and noise pollution
These actions provide inclusive, hands-on ways for disabled participants and the wider community to connect with the river and benefit from the wellbeing boost of time in nature.
FRBC is fortunate to benefit from a three-year grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to help grow our accessible rowing and environmental programmes, which this role will be funded by.
Role Overview
The Accessibility Lead will champion inclusion and accessibility across FRBC. This role ensures our programmes are welcoming, safe, and empowering for disabled and neurodivergent participants. You will co-design activities with participants, train staff and volunteers in inclusive practices, and strengthen partnerships with specialist organisations.
This is a leadership role with a direct impact on how individuals experience sport and community life at FRBC.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion inclusion across all FRBC programmes, facilities, and communications
- Facilitate co-production, embedding participant voice in the design, delivery, and evaluation of activities
- Support programme delivery, adapting activities to suit physical, sensory, or neurodiverse needs
- Provide training and guidance for staff and volunteers on accessibility and inclusive practice
- Develop partnerships with organisations supporting disabled and neurodivergent people
- Ensure flexible opportunities for participation (1:1 support, small groups, quieter slots, or land-based options)
- Monitor impact, collect feedback, and share learning with the Chief of Community Development and senior team
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Understanding of the barriers faced by disabled and neurodivergent people
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Experience working with diverse groups, either professionally or in a voluntary capacity
- Empathy, patience, and commitment to empowering participant voice
- British Rowing Level 2 Session Coach
- RYA Powerboat Level 2
- UK Coaching Safeguarding Adults
- Sport First Aid
Desirable
- Experience delivering inclusive sport, health, or wellbeing programmes
- Knowledge of adaptive sports equipment or accessible activity design
- Experience in training or mentoring volunteers/staff
- Connections with local disability or inclusion-focused organisations
