Easter Free Water Sport Week

Posted on Fri, 12 Apr, 2024

Easter Free Water Sports Week has been in full swing, a week-long course is filled with active fun, enriching experiences, and nourishing meals for young people aged 13-18 from diverse backgrounds.

FRBC aims to promote unity through sports and connect young Londoners with the River Thames.  As a key partner to Hammersmith and Fulham’s Spring Spectacular Easter holiday activities, our offer is unique, as many participants will have never had the opportunity to access the River Thames or enjoy the benefits of blue space.  Our free holiday programme, launched in 2019, targets young local people who are eligible for free school meals during term time and who may suffer from food insecurity, lack of appropriate holiday activities, learning loss and be at risk of crime during the holidays.  The programme offers a safe space for those who need it most and we hosted 24 participants with additional day visitors from London youth clubs, The Delgano Trust and The Avenues Youth Project.

FRBC recently became a GB Coastal Sculling Academy (read more here) having been identified as a club which can develop new and existing rowers for possible future international representation!  Easter Free Water Sports Weeks participants had the opportunity to try Beach Sprints, an exciting new rowing format during the course!

FRBC is hugely thankful to be working in association with the RNLI, St John’s Ambulance, Home Instead, Lumi Foundation, Thames Seal Watch, The London Sports Trust and Nourish Hub provide inspirational talks and activities across the week and Sam’s Riverside who provide all the delicious nutritious food.

A huge congratulations to Julia and the team for putting on hosting such an amazing opportunity for young people!
